While you can’t 100% remove an Art Track, you can swap out what YouTube will display to non YouTube Music Premium subscribers. Keep in mind, you can't replace an Art Track with another Art Track. Instead, you'll need to upload an official music video, lyric video, or visualizer. Here's how it works:

Things to Know

  • Art Tracks Are Auto-Generated

YouTube automatically creates Art Tracks for songs distributed via YouTube Music and Content ID. These tracks can't be manually edited or replaced.

How to Replace an Art Track with Your Video

  • Upload Your Video
  • Post your official music video, lyric video, or visualizer on your YouTube channel.
  • Use the Same ISRC Code on your uploaded video so YouTube correctly links it to your song -- this is the biggest takeaway. If you use the same ISRC, when people search for the track, the official video will appear instead of the art track, thus allowing you to tame advantage of the larger monetization efforts associated with video content.
  • Deliver It as the Official Music Video (OMV)
  • If your music is distributed through YouTube's Official Artist Channel (OAC), either you or your distributor can set your video as the default version---so it appears in search results and playlists instead of the Art Track.
  • The key here is to deliver the video via the same method you upload other content to YouTube.
  • If you use a distributor for your music, use them in this case as well. They can set the video as official, make the claim and collect the higher revenue for you.
  • If you do not use the same distribution method, your new video will get flagged as UGC and will not be set as the "official" version. If this happens, search will still default to the Art Track and the payouts will continue to be less.

What Happens to the Art Track?

  • The Art Tracks never go away, but they are deprioritized in the search results.
  • They still exist on YouTube Music.
  • However, when properly delivered and tagged, your uploaded video will take priority in YouTube search results and recommendations.

How to Make Sure Your Video Replaces the Art Track in Visibility

  • Distribute Through a YouTube Partner (like a distributor)
  • Claim an Official Artist Channel (OAC) so your video appears in the "Music Videos" section
  • Use the Same ISRC Code on your uploaded video so YouTube correctly links it to your song
  • Promote Your Video to boost engagement---this will help it rank higher in searches over the Art Track

By following these steps, you can take advantage of the higher monetization and better placements via the algorithm which favors video content. 🎶
